15th October 2011
After a busy week at work Friday came, and the chance to finish early, this time though not to go fishing, but to see my all time hero Bob Dylan perform live at the BIC in Bournemouth, Mark Knopfler from the former Dire Straits was on before him. Then the main man was on. Not everybody's favourite, but just listen to the words, pure genius.
Anyway I digress,
Arriving late afternoon, a handful of 3-B boilies were put into the swim where I had caught the big barbel and chub from mentioned in a previous blog. The river is now gin clear, so sitting some twenty metres above the clear gravel I could see if fish moved across it. After perhaps thirty minutes a chub moved across the swim, then a sharp jab on the tip, rod in hand I was ready, then a steady pull, I was on to it, and playing a good fish , but the scales showed different, although not bad at 5lb 6oz, but not the monster I am after. Another hour in the swim told me no more fish were going to slip up that day, so a move lower down the fishery was made.
I had already put some free offerings into the swim I had lost a fish in the previous session, so decided to have the last hour there, a few more 3-B baits were put in, then a short upstream cast was made onto the clear patch between the weed, after a short while tiny movements on the tip told me there were fish in the swim, then a pull of about three inches which I should have hit resulted in a lost bait, how they do that I will never know, another bait was put onto the hair, and the next cast was made, hoping the chub would have another go, sure enough another chance came, this time the strike was good, a powerful fish made me back wind for a short while, until I gained the upper hand, I was not sure it was a chub at first, there are a few carp in the swim at times, the power of the fish had me in some doubt for a bit, then a big chub came to the surface, she was bullied into the net, then placed on the mat before unhooking, the scales showed 6lb 3oz, my first fish from that swim this season, there will be more I am sure. Aidie did the pics on his way back to his car, and left me to fish on in the dark, no more bites were had, but another good fish on the 3-B was very welcome.

Well done Iain. Do you only use 3B boilies or do you ever use 3B paste?

Nairny,
Mightily impressed with your blog me old mucker, just confirms what a jammy so and so you are , seriously mate good to see you amongst em again.
Loved your bit of skullduggery recently, fishing a duff swim with no bait on, you really were paying attention to my tactics when I was your guest recently.
You really must have made it now, you`ve got your own stalker.
I`ve decided to start my own Thames blog, here goes:
Wed eve; went fishing......blanked.
Fri eve; went fishing......blanked
Wed eve; went fishing......blanked
Fri eve; went fishing......blanked
Ad infinitum.
Do you think it`ll catch on?
Mic

Simon
I use 3-B paste in the Autumn, usually before now, but the weather has changed the way I usually do things, Always adapting to the conditions will catch a few more fish.
