Best Chub Quivertip/Feeder Rod of ALL TIME
I'd really like to know what peoples views are, and especially opinions from top specialist big chub hunters like Nairny, on what they feel is the best quivertip/feeder rod of all time for chub. Doesn't have to be an up to date rod, it can be any rod.
Re: Best Chub Quivertip/Feeder Rod of ALL TIME
Hello Pete,
Im not a purist when it comes to chub fishing as I the majority of my chubbing is done on the wild Upper Severn, River Trent where heavier rods, line and leads are required, especially in flood conditions. I use 1lb 10oz custom made Arbitrator rods which are through action. I know that a lot of my peers like to use avon type rods, Drennan float rods and I suppose I should kit myself out with a lighter set up for my travels.

I have an old (must be getting on for 20 years old) 11ft 6", Shimano Twin Power Light/Medium Feeder and its a brilliant bit of kit. It bends al the way though to the butt when you get a fish on, but I sometimes feel under gunned when I need to stop a big chub dead in its tracks. Maybe something with a bit more backbone like the Medium/Heavy Twin Power Feeder might be needed.

Hello all
I think my all time favourite quivertip rod must be the Drennan 13ft IM8 super feeder. I`ve had everything from roach to almost 2lb on 2lb hooklinks and size 18s to mid twenties carp, big double figure barbel and accidental captures of pike to mid twenties all on one of these.
It has handled tips from 3/4oz right up to 6oz or even 8oz on rare flood occasions and seems to be happy right under the rod or over 50 to 60 yrds on the Thames. A true allrounder.
BTW Mr Nairn doesn`t use rods he has a wand....literally!!!

Now if I was a swearing type of man, I would tell you all to F**CK ***. Seriously Drennan medium feeders for me are the dogs, I have the older version and use it at 11ft 6" it goes uo to 13ft. The new medium feeder looks good, my mate Aidie uses one. Both do a really good job, But it depends on the situation, I think though Pete on the rivers you fish they would be good. PS are you sure there are 8lb + fish in the waveney?

I thought I was being rather complimentary......
I have seen pictures of fish that are well over 7, with a few that are just under 8. These pictures were taken a year ago by two very experienced specialists who have targeted the chub for a good number of years and I expect that fish would be over the eight pound mark by now. These two anglers are very secret squirrel in their nature and as such I don't think it would be fair to name them. Just because they don't shout it from the rooftops or publicise their catches doesn't mean that fish of those size are not there.
Thanks for your reply Ian. I know we haven't seen eye to eye in the past over bolt rigs, boilies and the like where chub are concerned but your opinion is very welcomed.
Re: Best Chub Quivertip/Feeder Rod of ALL TIME
Thanks for the compliment Pete, I was only joking, as for boilies they are my mainstay for summer and Autumn fishing, and the bolt rig has its place, I used to use it for my maggot feeder fishing, but the bolt rig for boilies does not work on the fisheries I target, they are extremely cagey of anything and will drop a bait at the slightest sign of resistance, I can see with some fine tuning like Mic Foot does, it could have it's place but not for me, I'm afraid. Have a look at the new medium feeder it is a lovely rod, and you would not be dissapointed with it I am sure.

I would have argued that the faithful John Wilson will take anything a Chub could throw at it on small to medium sized rivers - but now converted to a Drennan Big Feeder rod.... just wish it had a winch reel seat then it would be as close to perfect as I would expect to find!
